In the aftermath of the previous Woodsboro crimes, a new series of murders begins when a university professor is killed by a student wearing a Ghostface mask, but it soon becomes clear that another killer intervenes and kills the student himself, opening the door to new chaos connected to the past. Sam and Tara Carpenter live in New York with a group of survivors, while Sam tries to cope with psychological pressure and a smear campaign targeting her, while Tara studies at university. With new crimes appearing in the city, investigations begin led by the police with support from Kirby and Gale, and it is revealed that the killer is following a pattern linked to the previous horror film series.
