The story begins with a chase between Detective Mike Norris and serial killer Charles Lee Ray through the streets of Chicago, until Ray is shot before transferring his soul using a voodoo ritual into a “Good Guy” doll. The doll then reaches a boy named Andy, who lives with his mother Karen, and he loves it very much and considers it his new friend, naming it “Chucky.” But over time, mysterious crimes begin to happen around the boy, and they discover that the doll is behind them. Chucky uses Andy to get closer to his real goal, which is to transfer his soul into a human body before time runs out. As events escalate, the mother begins to believe the shocking truth, and the conflict turns into a direct chase between the family and the killer doll, until Chucky is finally destroyed after a violent confrontation, but the ending leaves a feeling that evil could return at any moment.
